El Salvador ACOES

Country: El Salvador

Region: Tacuba

Cooperative: ACOES

2008 marked the first-ever direct sale of this coffee to us. The quantity was about one half the standard contract size and logistics of getting it to us were almost impossible. Fate brought us together with this very small group of farmers and we look forward to a long, productive relationship.  The coffee is grown on steep hillsides at lower than usual elevations for Central America.  Heirloom Bourbon varietals are the primary shrubs with interspersed Pacas varietals (which are a dwarf Bourbon).  The aroma has caramel and floral notes and the flavor resembles fresh snap peas or wheatgrass with semi-sweet chocolate.  The light to medium body and mellow finish balance the cup.  Using the French Press highlights the nuances of this delicate coffee.  El Salvador is a complicated origin with exceptional coffee complex challenges.  Check out our El Salvador trip report for more details on the country's coffee scene and our producer partners.
