Automatic Drip Brewing (Auto-drip)

This is the most common way Americans brew coffee at home on daily basis due to ease and convenience.  The brew generally is lighter in body and complexity than French Press, however cleaner (no sediment).

Items Required

  • grinder
  • measuring spoon
  • auto-drip brewer
  • correct size paper filter (a "gold" filter can be used if it fits into brewers filter basket properly)

Grind Setting

  • in between pour-over and French press
  • generally a couple settings finer than the half way point on burr grinder adjustment

Amount

  • One large Tbsp per 4 oz. water

Contact Time of Water with Grounds

  • 4:30 - 6:00 minutes

Process

  • measure proper amount of coffee based on amount of water you pour into brewer
  • put grounds into filter inside brew basket
  • pour water into the brewers water reservoir
  • press start on brewer (if required)
  • never allow brewed coffee to sit on a heat source because it will adversely change the flavor of the brew
  • transfer completed brew into a  pre-heated stainless steel carafe (thermos)
  • pour into serving cups for immediate enjoyment
